native of Korea, So-Yeun Ahn graduated from Seoul
National University in 1987, and received her Master
of Music degree and Graduate Diploma with Distinguished
Performance Honor in 1994 from the New England Conservatory
of music. So-Yeun gave her first public performance
at the age of eight as soloist with the Taegu Civic
Orchestra in Korea. Since then she has performed
as soloist with the Korean Broadcasting Symphony,
the Suwon Civic Orchestra, Seoul Symphony, the Academy
Orchestra, Young Philharmonic Orchestra, and the
Daegu Chamber Orchestra. So-Yeun was winner of many
competitions in Korea, including the Nationwide
Chun-Chu Piano Competition and the Horugel Piano
Competition.
After coming to the United States, So-Yeun performed
with the Korean Symphony Orchestra of New York
during the Mozart Bicentennial at Lincoln Center,
and as soloist with the New England Conservatory
Orchestra at the commencement concert. In 1994,
she was invited to give a recital in the Young
Artists Showcase Series of the Gardner Museum
in Boston. So-Yeun Ahn was a Prize Winner in the
New Orleans International Piano Competition and
in the Commonwealth Piano Competition, and received
the Best Performance Award from The Journal of
Music of Korea in 1994.
She has taught at Sejong University since 2003.
